Sailing around Italy- Venice

My friend and I flew to Venice, via Amsterdam, where we were scheduled to pick up our five masted sailing clipper.
Venice was as beautiful and colourful as I remembered. It was also very busy and exceedingly hot!

St. Mark's basilica glistened in the hot sun and in the gloomy interior the newly restored mosaics glowed with gold.

Here is the Royal Clipper waiting for us to board after a day of sightseeing in Venice.

We set sail in the early evening, with the help of a tug, and we were on our way to Croatia

Sailing around Italy - Croatia, Rovinj and Hvar

We arrived at the port of Rovinj around lunchtime. It was a pretty little fishing village with Venetian influenced buildings perched above the blue waters of the Adriatic.

We set sail at dinner for the island of Hvar.

In the morning we arrived in Hvar with its C13 walls and narrow winding streets. The Venetian influence was also evident.

We visited a small museum with some Roman artefacts.

We visited a winery to sample the local wine and just enjoy the pretty garden.

We then stopped off to view the walls and the beautiful views.

Here the clipper is moored at Venice, off Rovinj, Hvar and Kotor in Montenegro.

During dinner we set sail and continued along the Dalmatian coast to arrive in Dubrovnik the next day.
